James 1:5-8 New Living Translation (NLT)

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.

James 1:1-4 New Living Translation (NLT)

Greetings from James

This letter is from James, a slave of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I am writing to the “twelve tribes”—Jewish believers scattered abroad.

Faith and Endurance

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

As we continue to explore if the Bible is inerrant and infallible, we will answer the question, “Should we try to bring all our thinking and feeling and acting into line with what the Bible teaches”.

The apostles spent time with and learning from Jesus.  The Gospels are the things that they saw, heard, remembered and recorded.  The words that were applied to Yahweh in the Old Testament, the apostles applied to the risen Jesus in the New Testament.

Theologian John Piper writes:  “God may lead us to see things and know things, but all our revelatory experiences with God are subordinate to Scripture.  Therefore, we are not infallible.  God is.  And the word He inspired is.”  As we read the Bible, the Holy Spirit makes it real and personal to us.  But God has bound His infallible word to Scripture.

What does the Bible, in particular the Old Testament, have to say in its own presentation of its divine truthfulness and authority?   In reading the Bible’s unique an glorious witness to its own grandeur, we see not just a divine claim but a divine reality.

Jesus and the early Christians lived and breathed the air of biblical authority.  For them, the Bible had absolute authority over their lives, because it came from God.

It is quite an amazing claim that any book written by human hands is the infallible word of God.  The Bible claims to teach the only path to eternal life.  If this is true, then the Bible is more important than any other book.  For what it offers is of infinite importance.

In many cities of the United Kingdom, cemeteries are full.  So, the question is where to put all the dead people?  The answer is in someone else’s grave.  This is known as grave sharing.  We just happen to know of an empty tomb that has been available for about 2,000 years.

The triumphal entry of Jesus is a predictable story, until an untranslatable word (kenosis) turns the tale upside down.
